One of the great things about the Austin metropolitan area is just how much the neighborhoods vary. Some neighborhoods are known for their nightlife and music scene, whereas others are best known for their outdoor recreational activities - there’s something for everyone here in Austin! It can be overwhelming trying to decide what area you want to live in, but one neighborhood near and dear to our heart is Brushy Creek. Jennifer Summers, the founder of Hoyden Homes, has lived in the Brushy Creek neighborhood for over 20 years. It’s a neighborhood that’s special to her, and soon you’ll see why so many people are drawn to it. Â
First off, in terms of location, Brushy Creek is located about 20 miles from downtown Austin. It’s in a perfect location where you can hop on the toll road, easily access MoPac, or take i35. Brushy Creek has plenty of options when it comes to commuting into Austin, which is great when you’re trying to drive through the city’s congestion. It’s a solid neighborhood to move to if you work downtown and have to commute daily. It’s also close enough to experience Austin’s nightlife without being directly in it. Â
Most families, though, are drawn to Brushy Creek for the top-rated school districts. The Round Rock Independent School District is one of the best school districts in Austin and provides a fantastic education from elementary to high school. If public school is not your thing, there are also quite a few excellent charter schools in this area, too.Â

Even if you don’t have school aged children, the area offers lots of outdoor activities. There’s the Brushy Creek Trail, which has over seven miles of hiking and biking paths, as well as a kayaking pond. Parks are peppered throughout the whole trail, with pools and sprinkler ponds for the kids. One of the great things about the trails is that sometimes, you don’t even know you’re in a neighborhood because the path is covered with trees on both sides. There are lots of outdoor activities to do in Brushy Creek, and the nature is beautiful as well.  Â
Brushy Creek has a lot of amenities and activities to do. The community center puts on all kinds of activities and events for all ages. They offer summer camps, sleepovers, and afterschool counseling for kids. There’s everything from racquetball courts to fitness classes, as well as some beautiful gardens for town events. The neighborhood is so lively and celebrated that there’s parades going on all the time. Brushy Creek has a relatively low crime rate and high livability score too, making it a great place to live Â
There are tons of restaurants in Brushy Creek that are very quick to drive to. There’s Mexican food, plenty of coffee shops, great pizza, wonderful Indian food, Chinese food, burgers, etc. If there’s something you’re crazing, there’s bound to be a restaurant nearby perfect for you. Â
With such a thriving community close to restaurants, located near a great school system and outdoors, it’s hard to not understand why Brushy Creek is highly rated and why so many people are driven to it. If you’re looking to buy in this area, you’re going to see properties that are priced from the low three hundreds to a million dollars. Generally though, home prices in this neighborhood are usually in the mid 400k range. From condos or townhomes to luxury homes and new construction, there are lots of options to choose from!
